Surely Glee creator Ryan Murphy uses an extensive and deliberate screening process to book his celebrity guest spots, right? No doubt set visits by outside stars (like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Chenoweth, Britney Spears, Neil Patrick Harris and John Stamos) are all part of a carefully planned, overarching plotline worked out before each season begins?
Well, no -- at least not based on the way the latest celebrity guest booking unfolded. Anne Hathaway dreamed up a role for herself, chose a song she'd like to sing ("You Are Not Alone" from the musical, Into the Woods), and mentioned it during a November visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Then she ran into Murphy backstage at the Golden Globes (after his show's big win for best comedy series) and mentioned it again. "I think that’s great," Murphy told People magazine. "So she’s going to come on."
The role Hathaway has envisioned is Kurt's (Chris Colfer) lesbian aunt who helps him to accept his sexuality.
