The cat’s out of the bag! Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, otherwise known as Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises, according to a press release from Warner Bros.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," said director Christopher Nolan.
Hathaway competed for the role against Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel and newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This casting announcement comes only days after the news that Hathaway will be a guest star on Glee.
Actor Tom Hardy will costar alongside Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises, playing the villainous role of Bane. "I am delighted to be working with Tom (Hardy) again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies," Nolan said of the actor, whom he worked with on 2010's Inception.
The film is due in theaters on July 20, 2012.
